Cultural Tourism Sector Development MTCI Signed the MoU with ME

DILI - The Cultural Sector is one of the heritages that needs to be developed as a part of tourism. In view of this importance on Monday (27/04) the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry (MTCI) and the Ministry of Education (ME) through the State Secretary of Culture (SEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU).
"To develop the tourism sector, MTCI will not carry it out alone, but working together with other ministries, especially the Ministry of Education through the Secretary State of Culture. Because, there are many cultural aspects which are the potential of tourism, that really need to be developed” said the Minister of Tourism, Trade and Industry, Gil da Costa Alves at the time of his brief speech, in the ceremony of signing the Agreement the Cabinet meeting room MTCI, Fomento Mandarin Dili. In the opinion of the Minister Gil, this agreement is a good initiative on the part of MTCI and the SEC, because tourism is not only about landscapes of mountains and seas, but also about cultural aspects. “Culture must go along with tourism, because , culture will promote Timor-Leste to the foreign countries. And the cultural sector should be preserved as historical documents so it can be developed into the future of the culture“ said Minister Gil. Moreover, the Minister Gil also recognized that cultural tourism will be one of the bases of income for Timor-Leste, after oil. “We promote tourism with the idea that, tourism can attract more investment to Timor-Leste, improving its image in the cultural sector as an important pillar to show to the world of the historic part of East Timor," said Minister Gil. When questioned about other cooperation which MTCI has made to develop the tourism sector, the Minister Gil noted that, in addition to this agreement, the MTCI also works in collaboration with the ME, by opening schools for Tourism, Trade and industry. "This is included in the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Education and we hope this year should be implemented. Moreover, the Ministry of Education has founded vocational schools in the areas of hospitality“ said Gil. This shows us that the Government through these two ministries (MTCI-ME) is seriously engaged in developing the tourism sector as a cultural heritage which is important to the future of East Timor. On the same occasion, the Minister of Education, Joao Câncio Freitas , also thanked the availability of MTCI, so that together with ME, through SEC, may care more efficiently, preserving the cultural heritage that is more important, such as the sector of tourism. “The cultural tourism, can also introduce more devises for Timor-Leste, but what is the most important is, how to explore the potencialities of torism inside our territory,” strenghtened João. Such cooperation, as the Minister of Education, is really very important, because SEC cannot act alone without cooperation with the MTCI that holds the important role in tourism. "Indeed, this cooperation is very important to work together in exploring the cultural heritage, attracting tourists from abroad to visit Timor-Leste. Moreover, we also preserve the income which comes into our country," he explained. The Minister of Education also added , besides of working in cooperation with MTCI, the government continued to performs activities together with civil societies and nationals and internationals NGOs nacionais for better to explore the richness of cultural heritages for becoming values for the new generation.
