Dili - To develop tourism and repair environment, the Ministry of tourism, Trade and Industry (MTCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the non-governmental organisation Haburas aiming to conserve the areas of Tourism. The Ministry of tourism, Trade and Industry, through the National Directorate of Tourism has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the NGO Haburas, with a view to sharing information for the development of sustainable tourism, eco-tourism and community tourism.

"I think it's very important to the Directorate of Tourism accomplish partnership with them (Haburas) to work together through the development of tourism, because it's not just the Government must develop, but also all parties can also help to collaborate in this task," said Director Nasional tourism, José Quinta.

The important thing is that the Government and other parties as its partners intend to collaborate together in the development of tourism in this nation, cooperating in the realization of the plans already established.

Officially basing on experience that the NGO Haburas already purchased during this time on the ground, the Government established this agreement with it, because it is the organization that has, in principle, the conservation of the environment in East Timor.

"The experiences gained by NGO Haburas on the ground are mainly basic community practices, in Tutuala  and currently present in Maubisse  and Maubara, in the expectation that such cooperation could have more power to apply the potential of community-based  national tourism and  in future we may already have a basic guidance on how to develop the tourism in the country and develop the economy of East Timor", said the Director of the NGO Haburas, Demetrio do Amaral de Carvalho, before signing the MoU (07/07) in the Conference Hall, Fomento, Bebora MTCI.

"We have seen that the situation of degradation during this time in East Timor, is more related to  the situation of the economy, particularly about the situation of poverty. Therefore we believe that the deterioration of the economic development programme, can be overcome through the improvement of conservation of the environment of East Timor to become an area of tourism".

To ensure the sustainable development of tourism economy can help develop the economy. However, this fact does not provide opportunity to the community for the development of the economy and that later there will be no understanding between the parties, if they are not also involved.

The MoU was signed by the two parties, through the experiences that the NGO Haburas already purchased on the ground, such as experiments in Tutuala, practices  in  Maubara and  Maubisse, are really important to cooperate in seeking to achieve the objectives already established by the agreement.
