National Director of Tourism attends 5th United Nation World Tourism Organization-UNWTO ASIA / Pacific Executive Training program on Tourism Policy and Strategy on 13-16 June 2011

the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry represented by National Directorate of Tourism Mr. José Quintas the National Director of Tourism attends 5th United Nation World Tourism Organization-UNWTO ASIA/Pacific Executive Training program on Tourism Policy and Strategy on 13-16 June 2011 in Brunei Darussalam, the training itself only for government official at senior director level from member states of UNWTO, the program co-organized by UNWTO, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea and the government of Brunei Darussalam.

Delegates that attending the training during four days were from twenty one countries such as Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Korea, Lao PDR, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam.

The main objectives of the training program:

  • To study current tourism policies of each member state, regarding its initial policy making and implementation; and to evaluate its strengths and weaknesses;
  • To provide insights and broaden member state policy options as well as opportunities on tourism policy making;
  • To formulate a more integrated tourism policy or model that can be utilized internationally by other member states.

During the training program all delegates from each country presented their short presentation which focused on Tourism Policy and Strategy on the best practices such as poverty reduction trough tourism, sustainable tourism development, multinational cooperation in tourism development, tourism marketing plan, destination management strategy, long-term tourism master plan, and innovation in tourism, Mr. Quintas was presented the best practices of Timor Leste experiences on community-based tourism and eco-tourism development which relating to poverty reduction trough tourism and sustainable tourism development. Media MTCI/Kandhi Barnez
